Onset Studio support

Answers for shooting, connecting cameras, sound, editing, exporting and going live.

Most questions are answered below. If something still isn’t working, write to support@siliconmac.com in English or Arabic.

Getting started

Onset Studio asks for the camera and microphone when you first open it. Photos access is requested only when a video is saved to Photos, and only to add videos. Speech recognition is requested only when you create captions.

If you declined a permission, turn it on in Settings → Apps → Onset Studio.

Connecting nearby iPhones

  • On the other iPhone, open Onset Studio, tap the camera button and choose “Use This iPhone as a Camera”.
  • On your iPhone, open Cameras and tap Connect next to it, then tap Allow on the other iPhone.
  • Both iPhones need Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on; they don’t need to be on the same network.
  • If no iPhones appear, allow Local Network for Onset Studio in Settings → Apps → Onset Studio on both iPhones.

Both iPhones should run the same version of Onset Studio.

Inviting someone from anywhere

In Cameras, turn on Invite with a Link and share it. The guest opens the link in the Onset Studio app (Join with a Link) or in a web browser, and you tap Let In.

For browser guests, current Chrome, Safari and Edge can send a live picture and full recordings. Some browsers can send a live picture but not a recording that Onset Studio can edit. Guests should keep the page open and the screen on while filming.

If a guest can’t connect, one of the networks may block direct connections — trying another network (for example mobile data instead of office Wi-Fi) usually helps. Make a New Link at any time to stop the old one working.

When clips don’t arrive

After each take, every camera sends its full-quality clip to you. Keep Onset Studio open on both devices until the clips arrive. If a transfer stops, the clip stays saved on the camera that recorded it.

Sound and microphones

Choose the microphone for each camera in its controls, or pick one microphone for every clip under Sound. Wireless microphones and USB-C or Lightning inputs appear when they are connected.

To listen live, connect headphones first; on the speaker, the microphones would hear the sound.

Going live and OBS

Copy the stream key from your streaming service and paste it in Go Live. If the service refuses the stream, the key may have changed — copy it again. Your key stays on your iPhone, in the Keychain.

For OBS, choose Send to OBS and follow the steps on screen. The Mac or PC must be on the same Wi-Fi as the iPhone.

Streaming for a long time makes the iPhone work harder: it can get warm. Use 720p or turn off recording while live if it does.

Captions

Choose the language spoken in the clip before generating captions. Some languages need a one-time download, and availability depends on your device and iOS version.
