Onset Studio privacy policy

How Onset Studio handles your camera, microphone, recordings and connections.

Effective date: 1 November 2026. This policy explains how the Onset Studio app (“Onset Studio”, “the app”), developed by Fadi Halik, and the Onset Studio connection service at onset.siliconmac.com handle information. Questions: support@siliconmac.com.

In short: there is no Onset Studio account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. Your recordings stay on your devices unless you choose to share, export, send or stream them. The developer does not sell personal information.

Camera, microphone and recordings

With your permission, Onset Studio uses the camera and microphone to show a preview and record video and sound. Recordings, edits and exports are stored inside the app on your device. They are copied to Photos only when you save them there, using add-only access — Onset Studio does not read your photo library.

Recordings are included in your device backups according to your iCloud or computer backup settings. Deleting a clip in Onset Studio does not delete copies already saved to Photos or shared elsewhere.

Cameras on nearby iPhones

To use other iPhones as cameras, Onset Studio uses Local Network access to find nearby devices running the app. The live picture, sound, camera settings and full-quality clips travel directly between your devices over Wi-Fi or a direct device-to-device connection. They are not sent to the developer. A connection starts only after the person holding the other iPhone allows it.

Joining from anywhere

When you turn on Invite with a Link, the app connects to the Onset Studio connection service at onset.siliconmac.com, which runs on Cloudflare. The service introduces the devices so they can connect directly. To do this it handles the room identifier and keys contained in your link, the name a guest types, whether the guest uses the app or a browser, and technical connection details such as IP addresses and network routes. It keeps this information in memory only while people are connected and does not store recordings, pictures or sound.

Picture, sound and clips then travel directly between the devices, encrypted by the connection (WebRTC with DTLS). When no direct path exists, the encrypted connection may pass through Cloudflare’s relay service, which cannot read its content. Cloudflare processes connection data, including IP addresses, to provide its network services under its own privacy policy.

Guests who join from a web browser use the page at onset.siliconmac.com with their browser’s camera and microphone permission. The page saves the guest’s typed name in that browser for next time, and sends recordings directly to the director’s device. Anyone with an invite link can ask to join, so share links only with people you trust; the director must let each person in, and Make a New Link stops an old link working.

Live streaming

When you go live, your video and sound are sent to the streaming service and server address you choose, using the stream key you enter. What happens to your stream there is governed by that service’s terms and privacy policy. Stream keys are stored only on your device, in the iOS Keychain. Send to OBS streams directly to a computer on your local network.

Captions

When you generate captions, Onset Studio uses Apple’s speech recognition. Depending on the language and your device, audio may be processed on the device or sent to Apple to recognize speech, under Apple’s privacy policy. Captions are stored with your edit on your device.

Diagnostics

To help fix problems, Onset Studio keeps a short technical log and crash information on your device. It contains app events, not your recordings. It leaves your device only if you choose to copy or share it, for example in a support email. Apple may also provide crash reports to developers if you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings.

Purchases

Onset Studio is free to download. A one-time in-app purchase, Onset Studio Pro, unlocks all features, at the price shown for your country on the App Store before you buy. Apple processes the payment, and the developer does not receive your payment details.

Support correspondence

If you email support, the developer receives your email address and what you write, processed by the email provider. Please don’t send recordings of other people without their permission, stream keys, active invite links, passwords or payment details. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to help you and keep a record of the conversation, generally no longer than two years.

Sharing and purposes

Information is used only to provide the features you use, to answer support requests, and to keep the service secure. The developer does not sell personal information, use it for advertising or share it for tracking. Information may be disclosed if required by law or to protect the security of users and the service.

Your choices and rights

You can withdraw camera, microphone, Photos, Local Network or speech recognition access at any time in Settings → Apps → Onset Studio. You can delete recordings in the app and remove the app to delete its data from your device. For questions or requests about your information, contact support@siliconmac.com. You may also have the right to complain to a data protection authority.

Children

Onset Studio is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent personal information to support, contact us and it will be deleted.

Security

Connections between devices are encrypted, the connection service keeps no recordings, and stream keys are kept in the Keychain. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so keep your device protected with a passcode and share invite links carefully.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new effective date. Contact: Fadi Halik, support@siliconmac.com.
