Contactary Privacy Policy

How Contactary handles contact data, backups, purchases and support messages.

Effective date: 4 October 2026.

Contactary is developed and operated by Fadi Halik. In this policy, “Contactary,” “we” and “us” refer to the developer and the Contactary app. This policy covers the app and related support correspondence.

Contactary processes your address book on your device. It does not upload your contacts or contact backups to the developer, sell personal information, or use an advertising or app analytics service. Information you choose to send to support is handled separately, as explained below.

Contacts you allow the app to access

Contactary asks Apple’s operating system for permission to access Contacts. You decide whether to allow access. Where limited access is available, the app can work only with the contacts you choose to share. You can change or withdraw permission in device Settings.

With your permission, the app reads the contact fields needed to display, analyze, merge and back up records. These may include names, telephone numbers, email addresses, contact photos, organization and job details, postal addresses, websites, birthdays, dates, relationships, social profiles and messaging addresses, where available through Apple Contacts. Backups contain the fields supported by Apple’s vCard serialization.

Contactary uses this information locally for browsing and search, contact-health summaries, duplicate detection, missing-information checks, phone-number interpretation, region grouping and the changes or imports you confirm. Region grouping uses phone-number information and your selected default region; it does not use GPS or track a contact’s physical location. The app does not call numbers or send verification messages to validate them.

Confirmed changes are written to Apple Contacts. Apple Contacts may sync them through iCloud or another account provider under your device and account settings. That syncing is not a developer-operated Contactary cloud service.

Settings and recent-contact history

The app stores settings such as language, appearance, default phone-number region and whether you have completed the welcome tour on your device.

For Recently Added, Contactary stores local contact identifiers, dates, a tracking-start date and whether an addition was made in Contactary or first detected by the app. This history does not store a separate copy of contact names, phone numbers or email addresses. Some identifiers are retained after a contact disappears so that returning contacts are not automatically treated as new. History is local to that installation and does not reveal the original creation dates of pre-existing contacts.

Local backups and protected exports

When you create a backup, Contactary saves a local vCard file and metadata such as its date, contact count and backup label in the app’s storage. Local vCard backups are not passcode-encrypted. They rely on the protection provided by your device and operating system.

Protected export creates a separate encrypted .ccbackup file using Apple’s CryptoKit AES-GCM implementation and a key derived from the four-digit passcode you enter. The app decrypts the file locally when you verify it, preview recovery or import it. The four-digit code has limited strength against guessing; encryption is not a guarantee against unauthorized access. Protect the device and the file, and keep the passcode separate from the file.

The developer does not receive or retain your export passcode and has no recovery key. The passcode is used in the local export or import workflow and is not intentionally saved as a reusable credential. We cannot recover a forgotten passcode or retrieve a lost backup.

Exported files are created in local temporary app storage before sharing. Temporary copies may remain until the operating system clears them or the app’s local data is removed. Creating a protected export does not encrypt or delete its original local vCard backup. App data may also be included in device backups according to your operating-system and account settings.

Files you import and information you share

Contactary reads only the files or compatible dropped content you choose for an import. A file provider may download the selected file from cloud storage under its own settings. Contactary processes supported vCards, contact text and protected exports locally, shows the records for review and adds records to Apple Contacts when you confirm.

Sharing, saving or emailing an export sends the selected file to the location, app or recipient you choose. The optional recipient email entered in the export form is used for that workflow; it is not a Contactary account identifier or a marketing subscription. The app does not send the passcode in its backup email text.

Your email provider, file provider, recipients and chosen sharing apps handle shared information under their own privacy practices. Copies outside Contactary are not deleted when you delete a local backup, revoke permission or remove the app.

Purchases and Apple services

Apple processes the one-time in-app purchase through the App Store. Contactary uses StoreKit to obtain product information and verify purchase entitlements, including whether a transaction is valid or has been revoked. It does not collect payment-card details or your Apple Account password and does not operate a separate purchase-verification server.

Apple processes purchases and any diagnostics you choose to share under its own privacy practices. If you enable sharing app diagnostics with developers through Apple, the developer may receive diagnostic reports made available by Apple.

Information you send to support

If you email support@siliconmac.com, we receive your email address, any sender name, the message and any attachments you include. Device or app information, purchase references and screenshots are received only if you provide them or they are included in the message. We use this information to answer your request, troubleshoot the app, address privacy or security concerns and maintain the relevant correspondence.

We use email service providers to deliver and store support correspondence. These providers process your message and delivery information for those purposes and may process them outside your country.

Please do not send your complete address book, backup passcode, Apple Account password or payment-card information. Use fictional sample contacts and redact screenshots. If you send someone else’s information, make sure you are authorized to do so. We do not use support correspondence to build a marketing list or a contact database.

Sharing and purposes

We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-service advertising. Apart from the sharing you initiate in the app, information we hold may be processed by the email service providers described in this policy. We may disclose information when required by law or when necessary and lawful to investigate a security incident, protect rights or respond to a legal claim. Any disclosure is limited to information relevant to that purpose.

Where applicable data-protection law requires a legal basis, processing is based on your choices and consent where required, providing the app or assistance you request, complying with legal duties, and other lawful grounds permitted by the applicable law. Legitimate interests, where that basis is recognized, are limited to proportionate support, security and protection of legal rights. We do not treat permission to access Contacts as permission to upload them or use them for marketing.

Retention and removal

  • Apple Contacts records remain in your address book until you delete or change them. Removing Contactary does not remove those records.
  • Local settings and recent-contact history remain in app storage until that app data is removed. Revoking Contacts permission does not erase existing local backups or history.
  • Local backups remain until you delete them in Backup & Restore or remove the app’s local data. Exported and shared copies must be removed from the locations where you saved or sent them.
  • Deleting the app removes its active local app storage. Offloading an app may preserve that data. Device backups, synced services and recipients may retain separate copies under their own settings.
  • Support correspondence is retained while needed to resolve and follow up on a request, and afterward only where reasonably necessary for recurring issues, security, legal claims or legal obligations. We review retention and remove information when those purposes no longer require it. Provider backups and operational records may expire on a separate schedule.

Your privacy choices and rights

You can manage Contacts permission, correct or delete Apple Contacts records, delete local backups and control your exported files without contacting us. Contactary has no separate user account to delete. We do not have remote access to your device, contacts, settings or local backup files.

For information we hold, such as support correspondence, email support@siliconmac.com to request access, correction or deletion, withdraw applicable consent, or exercise other rights available in your location, such as objection, restriction or portability. We may need proportionate information to verify the request and will respond within the period required by applicable law. Withdrawal does not invalidate earlier lawful processing. Some records may need to be retained for legal obligations or claims. You may also complain to the competent data-protection authority.

Children and security

Contactary is a general contact-management tool and is not designed to collect children’s information for the developer. We do not knowingly solicit support correspondence or other direct submissions from children below the age at which consent or parental authorization is required by applicable law. If you believe such information has been sent to us without appropriate authorization, contact support@siliconmac.com so we can review and remove it where required.

We use proportionate safeguards for information we hold and depend on device protections and the services described above for their respective roles. No device, email service, storage system or transmission method can guarantee absolute security. Keep your device locked and updated, limit access to backup files and do not share passcodes alongside protected exports.

Changes and contact

We update this policy when the app or relevant privacy practices change and publish the revised effective date. Material changes will be communicated through an appropriate channel where required. For privacy questions or requests, contact Fadi Halik at support@siliconmac.com.
